Should I Be Mining for Gold?

Saturday, March 26th, 2022

So I’ve been doing some research. I want to diversify my portfolio. While I don’t buy into the whole “invest in gold” things you see on the news, I do often wonder if I should invest in precious metals. I mean why shouldn’t I get into gold mining stocks. I know I don’t want to own some Krugerrands or bullion and stock it away in my safe. I’m no “doomer” thinking that I should be socking this away in case the world goes to pot. I’m not ready to trade gold for bullets and oil. No, that’s not me. On the other hand investing in a commodity that is directly gaining month to month like oil, gold and silver? Well that sounds way more my speed at the end of the day.

Overall it is a great prospect. We know there is a set amount of these precious metals in the world. There’s only so much they can actually get from the ground. If you can get enough of it you certainly would be making. Honestly it seems like a perfect way to diversify. Get more direct mining as they start to look into other areas of the earth. Of course, like most commodities, you need to do your due diligence. Not all the areas are environmentally sound. Mercury leaching. Destroying areas of precious wetlands or jungle for a few scraps of gold? Is it worth it. I think like anything, do your research and see if gold mining stocks make sense for your portfolio. It is your money, but of course, we all want to enjoy it one day. Unless you literally want to be trading those bullion coins and bars for food and water in that environmentally destroyed future, well I think it just begs a few questions we all need to ask.
